In this edition of our ‘Getting to know us’ series, we have a chat with Dirkjan, our director of testing. He recently started at spriteCloud and is already a key player in our team, as he works in close collaboration with our testers, but also with our clients. Have a look at his interview to learn more about his plans for our team of testers.
Hello, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I am Dirkjan Kaper, 54 years old, and proud to have recently started as the director of testing at spriteCloud. I have been working in the software testing industry ever since I started as a test engineer, right after university. I am a proud husband and a father of two sons.
We want to know more about your background. What was the path you took to get to where you are today?
I started as a test engineer in 1995, but quickly got involved in test automation, setting up my first keyword-driven test automation in 1996. After working as a test engineer, I have performed roles such as a developer, systems management manager, infrastructure architect and project manager. In 2008 I returned to Sogeti as a test automation consultant, advising a lot of clients on test automation, performance testing, service virtualization etc. I also worked as a delivery manager and a sales manager before I decided to come over to spriteCloud
You started recently at spriteCloud, can you tell us a bit about your new role?
With the continued growth of spriteCloud, it was decided to appoint a dedicated director of testing for the Consultancy group in the Netherlands. In this new role I want to help the team grow, both in size as well as regarding the number of clients and services that we provide.
What are you particularly looking forward to?
The value we add to the customer is the skills, knowledge and experience of our employees. I look forward to helping everyone grow their skills and knowledge and to find assignments for them that are both fun to work at, as well as help build out our customer base.
Do you have a topic that you’re particularly passionate about in your work? Can you tell us a bit about it?
Test automation is traditionally linked to automated testing. Creating scripts that execute against the test object, but nowadays there is a lot more test automation possible that allows test engineers to increase both their effectiveness as well as their productivity. I think that is where we can achieve most of our growth potential. And also, implementing new solutions is a lot of fun.
Thinking about your career, where do you see yourself in the future? Are there any particular skills you’d like to develop?
I have come to spriteCloud to find an inspiring company in an exciting stage of growth. For my future I see myself helping grow spriteCloud both in size as well in the complexity of projects that we do and the amount of publicity we generate.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
My spare time is filled with spending time with my wife and kids and with engineering stuff, both hardware and software, 3D printing etcetera.
