We’ve been very fortunate at spriteCloud to hire a lot of great interns to assist in the development of our SaaS product Calliope Pro. We don’t know if it’s just Gijs’ management skills or if there is something in the water at these schools, but we suspect its Gijs and the raw talent of our interns.
Sebastiaan is the newest intern to join the Calliope Pro development team and we have a feeling he is going to continue that streak of great interns. So join us in a warm welcome to Sebastiaan and take a moment to get to know him through this short interview.
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Sebastiaan Jansen and I am 22 years old. I study Software Development at Hogeschool Utrecht and I am currently in my third year.
What will you be doing at spriteCloud?
I will be working as a temporary intern on the development of Calliope. This includes small fixes and features to the different aspects of Calliope, as well as dedicated research on possible formatters and other extensions that can be incorporated into Calliope.
How did you get into software testing/software engineering?
It started back in 2014 when I was still in middle school. It was already known that I wanted to do something in the IT branch, I was already a nerd back then 🙂
I followed a week-long internship at an IT company. (I won’t mention their name for their privacy) One time they didn’t have any jobs for me to do, so they insisted I tried programming. So they showed me this website called CodeAcademy which has a lot of basic programming tutorials. After I finished one of the courses, I didn’t believe it would be something I would want to do in the future. But deep down, my soul wanted me to do this. It wanted me to start a career in software development. So here we are now.
What do you hope to learn in your time at spriteCloud?
I hope to increase my knowledge of both software development and software testing. Software testing is something that really interests me, which in this case is really suitable for this internship.
What is your favourite thing about your role or spriteCloud, so far?
It’s hard to say, I love basically everything about it 🙂 But I had to choose it would be the tester’s role. Like I mentioned before, software testing is something that really interests me. I want to learn more about this, this role is perfect in that regard.
Tell us something that you wish more people knew about you.
I’m a very modest person and I take a lot of pride in that. The few people that are familiar with this behaviour of mine claim it to be a beautiful quirk of mine. I wish more people would see that.
